HASTINGS FAT TUESDAY UP FOR EVENT OF THE YEAR REGIONAL AWARD

Hastings Fat Tuesday Music Festival has been announced as a finalist for Event of the Year 2018 in the Celebration of Sussex Life Awards.

Hailed as Hastings’ answer to SXSW in Texas, or Brighton’s Great Escape festival, Hastings Fat Tuesday is one of the jewels in the town’s cultural crown, and the UK’s largest Mardi Gras celebration. Each year the festival welcomes a wealth of local, national and international music talent and music fans alike.

Hastings Fat Tuesday was nominated for the award by Sussex Life readers, and the other finalists are Brighton Fringe and Chiddingly Festival. The winner will be announced at the Celebration of Sussex Life Awards ceremony on 25 October.

Bob Tipler, co-founder and organiser of Hastings Fat Tuesday, said: “Hastings Fat Tuesday Music Festival celebrates its 10th anniversary in 2019. It has grown to become a key event in the cultural calendar of Hastings, and a go to place to see new music from across Sussex and beyond over five days. As well as artists from across the country, we showcase the thriving local music scene. It is the tremendous support of the community that makes Hastings Fat Tuesday such a success, which is why being nominated for this award is so great.”

In New Orleans and Rio they call it Mardi Gras, in Venice it’s known as Carnivale and Hastings has “Fat Tuesday” (English for Mardi Gras). Hasting Fat Tuesday borrows heavily from the New Orleans take on Mardi Gras, combining the enjoyment of good music, a flair for dressing up and partying.

Previous headliners have included Dodgy, The Membranes, and Skunk Anansie, alongside established and emerging artists from across the UK.

Hastings Fat Tuesday 2019 takes place 1-5 March and promises quality live music, Mardi Gras madness, and plenty of surprises for the 10th anniversary.
